You may be scared to include weight lifting into your workout routine, as you may fear you will look bulky and masculine. However weight lifting can help you lose fat, build muscle, gain confidence and lot's more.
Here are four great reasons to start lifting weights today:
1. Lose fat
Incorporating strength training into your exercise routine, will help you to torch fat quicker than if you do cardio exclusively (that used to be me a total cardio queen!). While aerobic exercise burns both fat and muscle, lifting weights burns almost exclusively fat.
2. Burn more calories
Lifting weights increases the number of calories you burn after your workout, while you are going about your day. So this means that even when you are sitting at your desk, if you did some weight lifting in the morning, you will be burning calories as your muscles need energy to repair their fibers.
3. Build stronger bones
Your muscles benefit from strength training, as do you bones. When you perform a squat for example, your muscles tug on the bones in the front and back of your legs. The cells within those leg bones react by creating brand new bone cells. As a result you will build stronger, more dense bones. As a nation we are living longer, so bone strength is vital as we age and are more prone to falling, to prevent breaking bones easily.
Weight lifting makes you happier, try it and you will see! And it will increase your resistance to illness and injury. Your confidence will grow, as you realise that you are able to progress and lift heavier weights, than you did when you started out. You will be more confident, and mentally stronger too.
By lifting weights three times per week, you will notice the transformation happening before your eyes, and you will have a spring in your step! I see it all the time with my clients, and I love watching this transformation unfold before my eyes.
