6 Health & fitness benefits of boxing

Boxing is a really popular form of exercise as it has so many health and fitness benefits, for men and women. It appeals to a wide age group, and the results that you feel in your body and fitness levels are pretty amazing!

Here are 6 reasons to include boxing in your regular exercise regime.

1. Full body workout

Boxing is a combination of strength and cardio training, and you can burn anywhere between 500 - 800 calories in an hour long group exercise class, or personal training session. Boxing increases your muscle tone, improves your fitness and agility, and is especially good for toning your arms, back and stomach.

2. Core stability and tone

During a boxing workout, you rotate through your hips to get full extension in your arms. This continuous rotational movement through the hips helps to shape and tone your stomach, and your waist. By improving your core strength, this will also help to improve any lower back pain that you may be experiencing.

3. Stress relief

You may have had a bad day at work, a fight with  your partner or your kids may be driving you crazy! Punching releases a huge amount of stress, leaving you feeling calmer after your boxing workout. It's a great way to blow off some steam!

4. Co-ordination

Boxing improves your hand eye co-ordination and also strengthens the  mind body connection. As you improve your co-ordination you will become a stronger and faster boxer, and you will be able to get even more out of each boxing session, by pushing yourself further in each session.

5. Upper body cardio

Most cardio exercises focus on the lower body such as running, cross trainer, hill runs and sprinting. Boxing is a really great way to give your upper body a cardio workout, and sculpt and tone your upper body too.

6. Improves your strength and power

No two boxing sessions are ever the same. Each class or personal training session that you go to will be a new routine. This will mean that your body is constantly being challenged, constantly being pushed further and ultimately this will lead to improved strength and power.

If you have never attended a boxing class, why not find one in your local area and give it a go. You will have lots of fun and meet some new people too!
