The benefits of meditation

There is a lot of hype in the media about meditation and it's benefits. All the stars swear by it, and most successful business people start and end their day with meditation. But there is a very good reason for all of this hype!

I started including meditation into my daily life, about 1 year ago, and the changes I have notices in my health and my life have been phenomenal.

How your mind works

Your mind consists of varying levels of operation, known as brainwaves.  As you pass through the different stages of your day, you enter various stages of brain wave activity.  Your brain uses this tool as one way to allow you time to rest your busy mind, and cope with all the pieces of information you’ve received.

Modern alternative medicine and holistic healers believe in the power of the energy, that flows through your body; this energy radiates from your mind as well.  It is believed to be the chief form of transportation for your body’s nervous system to carry out communication.

Promotes good health

Meditation is something I would highly recommend for everyone to practice, especially if you lead a hectic, stressful lifestyle. Meditation has been shown to reduce stress, and promote overall good health, by simply reflecting upon your day, and finding happiness within yourself.

This and other mind exercises help you to keep our mind fit, healthy, and functioning at top performance levels.  But up until the last twenty years, meditation was something the western world knew little about.  Is it necessary for your health? Or have we just come up with a new fad?

Breathing techniques, music, aromas, and candle therapy are all ways you utilise the opportunities to reflect on your day, allowing your mind to rest and replenish itself for further use.  But are these methods keeping you mentally fit?  The simple answer is yes.

Higher awareness

The great benefit in meditation, however, your mind’s ability to transform itself into a vehicle for higher awareness.  Meditation is a way for you to become aware of the fact that there is more to your being than just your physical activity.

You have so much more potential locked away in your mind, resources that you never tap into until you have the chance to quiet your mind, quiet your surroundings and open the door to the possibilities you don’t examine on a day to day basis.

PRODUCES new thoughts & new possibilities

In your meditative state, thoughts that never have the opportunity to be heard during the bustle of the day are afforded the opportunity to come forward and be heard.  Every step that you take is a step in some direction for our life.  The opportunity to set your own destiny, develop your manifestation of what you believe your life should be, is the opportunity meditation provides.

Every action you’ve ever taken started as a thought.  The thought was then brought into reality by your action on that thought. So you are able to produce new thoughts and new possibilities, in this time of quiet reflection.

It is in these small moments of creativity and higher conscious operation that your mind heals itself from the stresses of the everyday activities, and maintains a real level of healthy operation.

Your mind is like your body, you don’t have to look unhealthy to be unhealthy, and sooner or later, the illnesses show.

Resources available

If you are pretty new to meditation I would highly recommend following a guided meditation. There are apps that you can download, and you can search YouTube for a variety of topics too. The Calm app is a good starting point, and if you do a search in YouTube for a topic such as "guided meditation" or "abundance". You will find hundreds of search results. Another option is to find a local Meditation class that you can attend regularly.

Since I have started to mediate, I have noticed that I am a much calmer person. I can handle stress better, and it's a fantastic way to end the day.
