How exercise can help with stress

Even though exercise may not be your favourite thing in the world,  regular exercise has a lot of benefits.  In the latest PTV blog post we will examine how participating in daily exercise will not only make you healthier in general, but it can also reduce the effects of stress on your body too.

Daily stress has increased

Every day stress levels have increased in most peoples daily lives. You work longer hours, you may be getting less sleep, you may be a Mum with young children waking you at night, or you may be over stimulating your mind with too much screen time. Plus the game of comparison to images we see on social media, is leading us to be a very stressed society.  The truth of the matter is that too much stress will play a role in many diseases in your body.

Decrease your stress levels

To help increase your immune system and decrease your stress level as well, try exercise, as movement is so important. Swimming, cycling, running, walking, boxing, weight lifting, barre, HIIT, yoga, pilates. The list goes on.

There are so many ways to incorporate enjoyable exercise into  your every day life. There's really no need to buy any expensive equipment either, as you can implement more movement into your daily routine and reap the benefits.

Aerobic exercise

If you like aerobic exercise, you should grab a partner and head along to a group class. There are so many great options these days such as Konga, Barre, Zumba, Boxing Circuits, Crossfit, Running Clubs and more! Or, you can simply go out for a walk and enjoy spending time together with a friend, or join a walking group.  Book it into your diary, and daily exercise will become a habit that you enjoy!

Every little bit helps

As you go through your daily activities, incorporate some exercise such as walking to the train, taking the stairs, bring your trainers to exercise at lunchtime.  While you are sitting at a desk, you could also do some simple and quick stretches for your neck and shoulders.

Exercise at home

If you enjoy watching television at home in the evenings, you could consider investing in a treadmill or exercise bike. You don't have to spend a fortune, you can purchase a second hand one online.

That way you can still enjoy watching our favourite TV shows, but exercise will doing so! Or you can join an online program such as PTV Online where you can access workouts to do in the comfort of your own home.

The power of walking

There are several different exercises that you can do to help you eliminate the stress in
your life as mentioned in this blog post. However just simply going for a walk when you are feeling stressed can really help you to feel calmer. Pop in some headphones with some uplifting music, enjoy some deep breathing while you walk and relax and forget about your worries of the day.

Yoga & Meditation

Yoga and meditation is probably my favourite way to de-stress. There are so many free yoga workouts available on YouTube. Or I subscribe to the YogaGlo channel which has a huge variety of yoga classes online for all levels. And I end each day with a guided meditation which helps me to fall asleep with a calm peaceful mind.
